To celebrate the founding of People's Republic of China, 韩三平(Hán Sānpíng) Han Sanping and 黄建新(Huáng Jiànxīn) Huang Jianxin produced a film 建国大业(jiànguó dàyè) The Foundation of a Republic, which was released just before Oct 1, 2009. The movie talks about a series of stories from 1945 up until 1949 when the PRC was founded. More than 170 famous actors were included in the cast of this film including Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi and so on. So in terms of the numbers of famous stars, the film makes a new 记录(jìlù) record.

2009年度“国家优秀自费留学生奖学金”项目

根据国家留学基金委关于2009年度的“国家优秀自费留学生奖学金”项目安排，国家将在美国等29个自费留学生较集中的国家里，奖励500名优秀的自费留学生；具体的奖励对象为一年级（不含）以上、年龄40岁以下（1969年1月1日后出生）的自费(包括获得校方奖学金者)在读博士生，奖励金额为5000美元/人。
为体现“公开、公正、公平”原则，奖学金评选工作严格按照“个人申请，资格审查，专家评议，网上公示，择优推荐，国内终审”程序进行。
驻美使馆教育处接受本馆区的留学生申请，申报的时间：即日起至10月31日（以邮寄时间为准）；邮寄地址为：张静安（Zhang Jingan）, 3505 International Place, NW, Washington DC 20008；信封上用中文注明“申请国家优秀自费留学生奖学金”。
申请人须提供的材料（一式二份）包括：
1、《国家优秀自费留学生奖学金申请表》（2009年）；
2、护照首页复印件；
3、博士研究生在读院校注册证明；
4、最高学历、学位证书复印件；
5、导师推荐信；
6、研究课题报告或课题介绍（中文，不少于2000字）；
7、曾发表的主要学术论文、著作、作品的封面、目录、首页等证明材料和1000字以内的中文摘要；

What:
Taking the chance of homecoming weekend at September 25th and 26th, DCSSA will invite several alumni back and share with the students their experiences and perspectives. Five alumina will join the panel discussion as guests (see below bio-statements). We will facilitate the communications by providing post-discussion refreshment. Everyone is welcome to join the interactive discussion with Duke Chinese alumina.
After the panel discussion, the new founded Duke Chinese Alumina Association (DCAA) will be officially launched with a formal reception (2pm – 3pm, same venue). This will be a great opportunity for current graduate students to learn our alumni’s invaluable experiences, and to build up social and academic network with them.

 各位同学，老师，华人朋友们：
时光荏苒，我们亲爱的祖国即将走过整整六十个风雨兼程的年头，在今年迎来她六十周年的诞辰——这是值得每一个中国人感慨追思，又值得海内外所有华人奔走相庆的日子。在这个历史性的日子到来之际，DCSSA计划举办一起大型的“中国周”主题展示活动，包括一系列的民族文艺表演和中华文化展览，旨在藉六十周年国庆这个契机，通过从各种角度全面展示当代中国的风貌和杜克华人的生存状态，来向整个杜克社区宣传中国的形象和杜克华人的形象。让中国和中国人更加真实、清晰、
立体地为世界所了解，是我们海外华人义不容辞的责任，也是DCSSA
准备送给祖国母亲的生日礼物。

走近麦肯锡：与杜克杰出华人校友黄鑫面对面

The Duke Karaoke in Chinese Contest 2009 is recruiting singers now!

To celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as in honor of the foundation of People’s Republic of China, on October 1st, 1949, DCSSA will hold a Karaoke in Chinese Contest on Oct 2nd, at Love Auditorium. There will be gifts for all the singers and the top three will be awarded with prizes valued $100, $50, and $25, respectively. Furthermore, the top three singers, representing Duke, will sing in The Triangle Area Karaoke Contest on Nov 14th.
If you are interested in singing in the Duke Karaoke in Chinese Contest, please take the following steps:
First, select two Chinese songs you would like to sing in the contest. (Important: The lyrics of the songs have to be Chinese.)
